Titian Ramsey
Peale made this eight panel panorama of Washington with a camera from
atop the central tower of the Smithsonian Institution on August 18,
1863. Peale was the youngest son of artist Charles Willson Peale.
In the family tradition, Titian too was an artist and naturalist.
At the time of the Civil War, he was employed in the Patent Office
as an examiner.
