Farragut’s dress coat, cap, and sword


This service dress coat and cap were worn by Rear Admiral David G. Farragut while directing the fire of the flagship Hartford during the Battle of Mobile Bay.

The jeweled sword was presented to Farragut by the Union League Club of New York on April 23, 1864. The blade is inscribed: “Presented to Rear Admiral David G. Farragut by Members of the Union League Club, as a token of their appreciation of his gallant Services rendered in defence of his Country. New York. April 23rd 1864.”
