Braxton Bragg (18171876)
|
Braxton Bragg was one of many well-known West Point
graduates who sided with their native southland
at the start of the Civil War. As a major general,
Bragg first distinguished himself at the Battle of Shiloh in Tennessee, where he commanded
the Confederate right, capturing thousands of prisoners
and many guns. In spite of his energy and organizational
talents, Braggs want of persistence in following
up victories in the West eventually contributed
to the fall of that vital region. |
