Flag (National Color) of the 84th Regiment


This silk thirty-five-star U.S. flag belonged to the 84th Regiment of Infantry, United States Colored Troops. The unit was organized on April 4, 1864, and mustered out of federal service on March 14, 1866. During its history, the 84th fought in a number of battles in Louisiana together with a larger force of Union army volunteers and three other regiments of colored troops. Some of the battles in which the 84th participated are written on the front of the flag:
