Confederate lanyard and toothpick

James Allen Kibler (Muhlenberger Rifles, C.S.A.) carved this lanyard and toothpick while a prisoner of war at Fort Delaware. Both items are carved from bone; the black rings of the lanyard are made from gutta-percha. Prisoners on both sides often carved items, sometimes for profit, to while away the long hours.
